Storage, archives and backups

Review local storage and distinguish archives from deletion.

Review measured usage

Settings → Storage reports local categories such as chats, archived chats, worktrees and other data. Unreadable files or incomplete scans can produce partial results. Local model/token usage is a device ledger, not a bill from a hosted inference service.

Archive or remove

Archive moves a chat out of the active list and can be reversed. Space Trash and revision references have their own retention rules. Permanent cleanup uses a separate review and confirmation; it does not have a general product undo.

Back up important work

Use the supported backup/export controls and choose a destination you control. Check that the result includes the work you need. A storage total is not proof of a recoverable backup or of copies on external synced drives.

Local and cloud are different

Local chat, artifact and settings storage does not establish how long the hosted account service retains account or encrypted relay metadata. Do not infer a cloud retention period from local cleanup controls.
