Use opt-in voice controls with your local desktop setup.

Choose your voice setup

Open Voice in Settings to review microphone and dictation preferences. The conversation lifecycle is opt-in. The system voice picker uses voices installed on the computer; a saved selection does not install a voice engine.

Allow the microphone deliberately

Grant the operating system’s microphone permission when you choose to use voice. If access was denied, use the recovery control and check OS privacy settings. Changing a preference does not itself open the microphone.

Know the limits

The shipped shortcut uses press-to-toggle behavior. Do not assume hold-to-talk, double-tap gestures, retained audio retry, voice cloning or a local voice-generation product. Read and check the dictated text before using it.
