Phone and desktop stopped talking

Paired fine before, silent now — the usual suspects.

Updated August 2026

The usual suspects, in order

  1. Desktop asleep or off. Your phone drives your desktop; a sleeping desktop has nothing to say. Wake it and keep it plugged in for long jobs.
  2. Desktop offline. The machine is awake but its network dropped — check it can reach the internet.
  3. App needs a restart — on either end. Restart the desktop app first, then the phone app.
  4. Access was revoked or changed. Check the desktop’s device list — if the phone’s access toggle is off or the pairing is gone, that is your answer.

Last resort: re-pair

If everything above checks out and the two still will not talk, revoke the pairing and pair again fresh — it takes under a minute. See Pairing your iPhone.
